What to do in and around the village of Rhodes

Winter has the obvious appeal of ski-ing at Tiffindell which is now reopened for the 2013 season! We offer hikes and support for cyclists. Den Hagen lends itself to altitude & hill training for runners. Cyclists have some beautiful rides to Maartenshoek, Kloppershoek or up the challenging Carlislehoek to Tiffindell. For the gung-ho one can take on Naudesnek.

Opportunities for hiking are virtually unlimited – according to one’s enthusiasm, energy levels and taste. We have two marked out hikes on the farm. Guests are able to do these hikes free of charge!

For the historically inclined there is an extinct volcano nearby and a fossilized dinosaur footprint near Ugie, not to mention San, or Bushman, rock paintings. In summer one can swim or tube in the pristine streams and rivers. Because of the altitude, one can find Alpine flowers- the International Alpine Floral Society visited a few years back. Other options include horse riding, cycling  and drives. Activities on the farm include croquet, boulle, darts, flick-board, table soccer, ping-pong.

Evenings lend themselves to star gazing and moon-light walks, or simply relaxing around a braai. A short journey to the village of Rhodes takes one to the choice of a few pubs & restaurants.

Tubing is a summer activity which everyone enjoys but is at own risk and only when river conditions are suitable.

Catching wild trout has an appeal of its own, even if only for the isolated solitude of fishing in an amazing environment.

Tennis is also available in the village so bring along your tennis kit and enjoy playing against some of the locals.
